It's tea time, Sunday and we wanted cucur udang just the way mummy used to make them when we were growing up in the kampung.

By we, I mean my friend Dr. Zin and I, drove around Lucky Garden hoping to find an old guy who used to sell cucur udang by the DBKL stalls there, but he was nowhere to be found. Then it occurred to me Chef Wan has it on the menu. Another friend told me three months ago Chef Wan's cucur udang surprised him in terms of quality and offering. But going to De Wan at The Linc is a big effort on a rainy day.

Dr. Zin googled looking for Chef Wan "near you".
"Hey, hey we're lucky, there's a De Wan by Chef Wan in Bangsar Shopping Centre, the menu says they do have cucur udang freshly prepared on site."
I was surprised. Chef Wan just opened a branch on the first floor above the supermarket! Wonderful. Next time there's no need to rush to The Linc for Chef Wan's food.
We ordered. The cucur udang arrived.
It was really humongous just the way my friend described it. It's round and crispy like a Malay omelette full of prawns and vegetables. About six inches across overflowing the plate that it was served in. It has real fresh prawns too! No kidding.
It's served with two types of sauces. The peanut sauce is thick almost similar to satay sauce. The other is chili sauce is sweet and spicy.
I had two helpings of the peanut sauce excitedly dipping pieces of hot crispy cucur udang into the cute bowl carefully chewing it savouring the delicacy with every bite, and letting memories of eating the same during my childhood fleeting through the back of my mind.
It was too much for the two of us to finish. Dr. Zin wrapped half to take home to show his maid hoping to make an identical one in their own kitchen.
Go visit De Wan by Chef Wan on first floor Bangsar Shopping Centre, Jalan Maarof, Kuala Lumpur. You'll be glad you tried authentic cucur udang with fresh prawns. But don't be too overwhelmed by the price though! It's not a Rahmah Menu price not by a mile!
