PH government does not tolerate corruption, more so if it occurred within a ministry that is part of its administration led by PMX who is dead against this unhealthy practice.
Anwar has yet to comment on the arrests of officials who worked for the ministry. But the minister is well advised to take leave while investigations are in progress.
Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim who is often critical of PMX's administration, has advised Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar to take leave from his duties until MACC has completed its investigation into alleged corruption on foreign worker recruitment deals.
Hassan is right. In politics, public perception is what matters. By not going on leave, it may seem that the government may want to sweep the issue under the carpet.
Hassan, a member of the Special Committee on Corruption, said this would be an exemplary act consistent with the agenda of Pakatan Harapan government to eradicate corruption. Action in this case, speaks volumes for the administration.
"Don't wait for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to issue an order on the minister whose ministry is involved in corruption to go on leave or resign. Each minister should have his own responsibility to protect the good name of the government led by the Prime Minister who is clearly taking action to combat corruption in the government machinery."
"So far the minister is not a suspect, nor is he an accused person. But the fact that he was twice called to be investigated by the MACC and that his home and office were visited by the MACC does not reflect well on the image of Malaysia Madani government." - NST
That was a hint as subtle as a train wreck for the HR Minister. Just go on garden leave and resume your responsibilities later, if you were not implicated in any way. By staying put, you are giving an example that would further tarnish the administration in the eyes of the public.
It is bad enough to have a minister already charged with corruption in the cabinet, but to have another tainted by the actions of his own staff would further aggravate the situation.
"I believe the minister is a respected politician and has a clear and noble conscience. As a member of parliament and an experienced political leader it is honorable for Sivakumar to take the right action. I am not urging or calling for him to resign now. At least it would be good at this time for him to take leave first from his duties as a minister," he said.
YB Sivakumar, we plead with you to go on leave for the sake of the government that does not need more bad press.
Stop providing ammunition for the opposition to use against the government in the coming state elections.
We'll wait for your safe return.
To help you make the decision here's a quote from Paulo Coelho who said, “If you’re brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello.”
