Hadi is not going anywhere near DAP's kitchen which he considers as non-halal, while KJ is yet to decide whether to join or not to join BERSATU led by an old friend and former boss in a short lived government, Muhyiddin Yassin.
Their decisions may not make any difference in our lives at all but we still need to talk about what they do or might not do just to convince ourselves that politics and democracy are alive and well and thriving in Malaysia.
Hadi recently said PAS would not be distracted from its Islamic policies and orientation and would therefore never be able to work with DAP, unlike UMNO. In fact, "PAS cannot enter DAP's 'kitchen' because of the presence of 'non-halal food'. We cannot do so even if they change their 'chef', even if the 'chef' is Muslim," Sinar Daily reported.
Hadi said so when responding to Lim Kit Siang's recent remark in which the latter expressed hope for UMNO to become stronger than both PAS and Bersatu to ensure the success of the government led by Anwar Ibrahim.
Hadi said, "DAP is working with UMNO to secure Malay and Muslim votes to make up for PKR and Amanah's failures.
"Their partner, UMNO, is now being tested - are they fighting to cari makan (for survival) and positions or because UMNO is fighting for religion, race and homeland?" - Focus Malaysia
The public knows that UMNO is struggling to win hearts and minds of Malays. The party that was championing for "race, religion and homeland" (of the Malays?) is not likely to be welcomed in many constituencies in the heartlands
With this latest attack, it is hard for UMNO to deny since they had already sacrificed their principles and jumped into a non halal kitchen headed by a Malay Muslim chef.
Hadi did not name any names but you can guess who the chef really is that is now helming DAP's kitchen. But it's curious to observe that PAS was in the same kitchen once in 1980s. That's history I suppose.
However, as Anthony Loke says about PAS in summarising DAP's relationship with the Islamic party, "If you are with them, everything is halal (permissible). If you are no longer be them, everything is haram (prohibitive)."
In the coming state elections if PAS and BERSATU were able to wrest five states in the coming state elections, it would indeed be history because the two did not even have to poke their heads into DAP's kitchen to be victorious.
Anyway, about to make history too is a DJ on Hot FM who is courted by BERSATU. But if he jumped into that camp it'll be another history because KJ had never jumped ship before.
Now that he is booted out by his rival there is no way to regain entry into UMNO any time soon. Unless of course, some kind soul picks him up and sponsor him just like what happened to Tun Mahathir at one point in his life when he was expelled from UMNO by the late Tunku Abdul Rahman.
We know DAP is not likely to team up with PAS unless the party converted to Islam en mass and became another Muslim political movement. That's not likely to happen in our lifetime so why waste our breath talking about that.
On the other hand, for KJ is only one guy that is the talk of the town right now. The chatter is "will he or won't he." He is hot news, his decision more deadly for UMNO than Hadi's venom.
If KJ were to jump into the opposition camp, Negeri Sembilan might swing to Perikatan Nasional.
Now, that's news that will affect at least everyone in that state if not the whole country. It would be hotter news in fact, if he was made Menteri Besar of the state. That would checkmate UMNO in more ways than one. Except Hot FM that might lose its most well known DJ.
You see, democracy is alive and well in Malaysia. So is the politics that has become an integral part of this free and democratic country where you can talk about everything under the sun.
