MEMBAKUT: A total of RM87,900 was donated by the Sabah Islamic Religious Council and the Sabah State Baitulmal Center to flood victims at the Temporary Evacuation Centers (PPS) here.
Membakut assemblyman Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin bin Mohd Arif handed the aid of RM300 each to 293 household heads affected by the flood in which each received RM200 from MUIS and RM100 from the Sabah State Baitulmal Center.
Dr Mohd Arifin, who is also the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, said the contribution from the Islamic organizations aimed to ease the burden of flood victims who have been affected by the floods over the past three days.
“Food basket assistance is also being distributed to the flood victims who are not at these evacuation centers as they are still at their homes due to road access being cut off by the disaster.
“Distribution efforts are still ongoing to ensure that supplies are sufficient, and we have also asked local grassroots leaders to identify those who have yet to receive this assistance.
“These include areas in Ulu Membakut, such as Kg Bambangan and Kg Kitana. Although the floodwaters have receded and some roads are now passable, we are continuing to deliver the aid to them,” he said.
He said this to reporters during the distribution of contributions from MUIS and the Sabah State Baitulmal Center at the Membakut Islamic Arts Hall PPS here, on Monday night.
