Alan Carr will be back in the turret of a Scottish castle this year – but he’ll be swapping out his Celebrity Traitors cloak for something a little more regal.

The comedian, 49, has confirmed that he’s set to become a Scottish baron after buying Ayton Castle ahead of his new Disney+ series, Castle Man.

Carr shot to national treasure status last year after winning BBC One’s Celebrity Traitors, deceiving fellow finalists Nick Mohammed and David Olusoga into thinking that he was a Faithful before taking £87,500 for his chosen charity, Neuroblastoma UK.

Inspired by his time at Celebrity Traitors location Ardross Castle, Carr bought a 19th-century stately home in Scotland’s Ayton – which comes with its own barony title.

Speaking to Pete Wicks and Sam Thompson on their Staying Relevant podcast, the comedian confirmed reports that he had bought the castle.

“I have bought it. Someone said someone else has bought it but, no, I have. I haven’t been this excited about a project for ages,” he said.

“I’ve got the survey now and I’m waiting for the keys to come. I’ll be a baron and I’ll be getting my own tartan – I might get a nice man up there.”

The Celebrity Traitors winner’s experience of buying and running the property is being filmed for a Disney+ reality series (although the streamer seemingly missed obvious title, Carr-stle Man).

The show will follow Carr as he tries to build a life for himself at Ayton Castle ahead of his 50th birthday. He said in a statement in January when the series was announced: “Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me – I want my very own castle.

“Since I was a boy in Northampton, I’ve always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home and as I turn 50, I feel it’s my time. All I want is a turret to call my own – get me over that drawbridge!”

It’s been a busy year for Carr, who has been heavily booked with various projects since emerging as Celebrity Traitors’ first-ever winner last November. He went on to present Amanda and Alan’s Greek Job with Amanda Holden – his third travel series with the Britain’s Got Talent judge for the BBC – as well as Channel 4’s heartwarming game show Secret Genius, in which he and Susie Dent attempted to find clever people who’ve been underestimated throughout their lives.

As well as Castle Man, Carr will also be taking part in the new series of LOL: Last One Laughing UK, which debuts on Thursday 19 March on Prime Video, with Bob Mortimer, David Mitchell, Maisie Adam and Romesh Ranganathan in the cast.
