Alas Pilipinas revamps entire roster; Jia De Guzman, Bella Belen decline to rejoin national team

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has overhauled the Alas Pilipinas women’s roster, with De La Salle University’s Angel Canino and Amie Provido standing as the only two returning players.

PNVF President Anthony Liao clarified that the Alas Pilipinas 2025 Southeast Asian Games lineup has been dissolved as the previous squad, led by decorated setter Jia De Guzman and standout spiker Bella Belen, declined to rejoin the national team.

“Regarding the old Alas team, we reached out to them. They definitely said no. At least we invited them and asked whether they wanted to play. Those who played in the SEA Games are gone; they already said no,” Liao told the media.

"It’s over; they said no. They said they’re not interested in playing anymore. We invited everyone who played in the SEA Games, but they can’t play anymore. Fine."

Liao also gave an update on collegiate players in the previous SEA Games lineup: UAAP Season 88 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Shaina Nitura is still recovering from her injury, while middle-blocker Alyssa Solomon (currently playing in Japan) said that she’s considering to join next year.
