Meneses, Delos Santos beef up Alas coaching staff

THE Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has tapped two of Philippine volleyball’s finest coaches to support Alas Pilipinas head coach Tai Bundit.

Tai Bundit, the newly appointed national coach, will be accompanied by Sherwin Meneses of Creamline and Shaq Delos Santos of Cignal at the bench.

Meneses is an eight-time Premier Volleyball League (PVL) champion and has worked with the Thai coach at Ateneo de Manila University and during Creamline’s building years in the PVL.

Meneses is familiar with representing the national team as he previously served under coach Dante Alinsunurin during the men’s volleyball team’s historic silver medal run at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Delos Santos, on the other hand, returns to the women’s national program, having previously led the squad during the 2018 Asian Games and the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

A proven winner, Delos Santos captured titles for University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP and Petron in the Philippine Super Liga (PSL). He also steered Cignal to its third silver medal finish before the club’s hiatus from the PVL.

Joining Meneses and Delos Santos on Bundit’s staff are Benson Bocboc of Farm Fresh, JP Yude of Adamson University and Criss Cross coaching staff Geuel Asia and Krung Arbasto.

Alas Pilipinas will compete in the 2026 AVC Women’s Cup from June 6 to 14 in Candon City, aiming to defend or improve upon their historic silver medal finish from the previous edition.

Alas Pilipinas, meanwhile, is considering adding 18-year-old super rookie Sam Cantada of the National University to the national team program, along with Sahi Nitura of Adamson, Zam Nolasco of College of Saint Benilde and Vanessa Sarie Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
