MANILA, Philippines— Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala advanced to the round of 16 of the BNP Paribas Open after Coco Gauff retired in their round of 32 clash at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden Stadium 1 in California Monday morning in Manila.
Eala secured the 6-0, 2-0 walkover win after Gauff retired following the second game of the second set due to apparent left arm injury.
Eala thus got back at Gauff who defeated her at the Dubai Tennis Championships quarterfinals nearly three weeks ago, 6-0, 6-2.
