
MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala secured $61,865 or more than P3.6 million for reaching the third round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California.
Eala entered the third round (round of 32) after outlasting Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska in her tournament debut last Saturday, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, in the round of 64.
Seeded 31st in the 1000-level tournament, Eala received a bye in the first round.
Eala faces world no. 4 Coco Gauff in a rematch in the round of 32 on Monday.
The 20-year-old will secure $105,270 or P6.2 million if she advances to the round of 16.
