Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala finally ended the 'Czech Curse' and claimed her first professional title and second overall after the Guadalajara 125 in September last year.
Eala held serve and turned back Nikola Bartunkova, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, at the WTA 125 Birmingham Open final in England on Sunday evening (Manila time).
Eala has now won for the first time against a Czech Republic player at the Tour.
Topping her doubles partner in the same tourney after 2 hours and 37 minutes, Eala snapped her 13-game skid against Czech players.
Eala's last defeat against a Czech Republic player came at the hands of Karolina Muchova at the Miami Open last March, 0-6, 2-6.
