MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala has become even more determined following her breakthrough campaign at the Wimbledon Championships.
The Filipina tennis star, now ranked World No. 28, has no plans of slowing down. Instead, Eala said her best-ever Grand Slam performance has fueled her desire to achieve even greater success, particularly in future major tournaments.
Eala reached the fourth round of Wimbledon, marking the deepest Grand Slam run of her young career.
“My previous result in Wimbledon is my best result in a Grand Slam. It’s the highlight of my career so far. It motivates me to work harder. I’m even more ambitious now. I’m even more hungry,” Eala said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
The 21-year-old is determined to push beyond what she accomplished at Wimbledon and continue raising her level on the world stage.
“The whole idea of ‘kapag lumago hindi na hihinto’ resonates so well with this moment in my career because I feel like the seeds have been planted. More than it correlating to results, it refers more to the dream that I have,” she explained.
Growing up, Eala always dreamed big, with competing in a Grand Slam being one of her biggest aspirations.
Now that she has turned that dream into reality, the Filipina ace wants to keep challenging herself and aim for even greater achievements.
“I’ve always been a very ambitious girl growing up. I always have big dreams. Now that I got a glimpse of what it’s like to live them out, those dreams get bigger and bigger, and I think it’s a great thing when it’s backed up with hard work,” Eala said.
With renewed confidence and an even stronger drive, Eala is expected to come back even fiercer in the tournaments ahead as she continues her pursuit of greater success for the Philippines. TMT
