MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala returned to No. 28 in the WTA live rankings on Tuesday.
Eala dropped from her career-best No. 28 to No. 29 on Monday but was pushed back up after Canadian Leylah Fernandez fell nine places from No. 25 to 34.
The live rankings already reset Fernandez's 500 Mubadala DC Open championship points last year, leaving her with 1,344 total left.
Fernandez, who is of Filipino descent, will return to Washington to defend her title and regain those shaved points.
Eala, whose 1,666 ranking points stayed intact, is one of the players looking to dethrone Fernandez.
Eala lost to Fernandez last April in Stuttgart, 1-6, 4-6, in the battle of Pinay lefty netters.
World No. 3 Jessica Pegula, No. 10 Elina Svitolina, and No. 13 Naomi Osaka are some of the favorites to win the title this year.
