MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala secured $28,245 or P1.7 million prize money for reaching the WTA 500 HSBC Championships second round (round of 16) in London, England late Tuesday night in Manila.
The Filipino netter defeated Chinese Zhang Shuai, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round (round of 32).
With the win, world No. 33 Eala forged a rematch against No. 19 Jovic in the second round.
Eala fell to Jovic in their French Open first round encounter, 4-6, 2-6, on May 26.
