FOUR men who surrendered to the police early this morning have been remanded for two days to assist investigations into the alleged attack on independent preacher Zamri Vinoth.

With the arrest, the number of individuals arrested in connection with the incident has increased to six.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Roshayati Radellah after the police applied for a four-day remand to complete the investigation.

Earlier, the four men involved, two engineers, a technician and a van driver, aged between 20s and 30s, arrived at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court at about 8.35 am in a police van.

All of them, who were handcuffed, were wearing orange and purple lockup clothes.

The four suspects reportedly presented themselves at a police station here early this morning before being arrested by the authorities.

Their lawyer, V Parthipan, said his party also showed the court a video recording of the alleged attack, which is now viral on social media.

“The complainant claimed that his attackers were holding rocks and sticks, but the video footage clearly showed that no one was holding any objects.

“The footage also showed that all individuals were focused on the driver’s side of the car, while the damage was clearly visible on the left side of the vehicle,” he told the media after the proceedings.

Parthipan, who represented the four men, along with lawyers K Puvirajan and T Turuvandran, also argued that Section 506 of the Penal Code, relating to criminal intimidation, did not apply in this case.

He said his party had also lodged a police report against Zamri.

“My clients fully cooperated and surrendered this morning to assist in the investigation into the case,” he said.

Previously, two brothers were also remanded separately in connection with the same case, and both have been released. – March 10, 2026
