ALTERNERGY Holdings Corp. said Monday that joint venture Dupinga Mini Hydro Corp. had secured a certificate of compliance from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for the 5-megawatt (MW) Dupinga run-of-river power plant in Nueva Ecija.
In a statement, Alternergy said the ERC certification had paved the way for the facility’s commercial operations.
"This confirms our full compliance [with] the technical, operational, and regulatory requirements and documentations [of] the ERC,” Alternergy President Gerry Magbanua said.
Dupinga Mini Hydro is a partnership comprising Alternergy Mini Hydro Holdings Corp., Markham Resources Corp. and the Nueva Ecija II–Area 2 Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Neeco I-Area 2).
The Dupinga plant will supply additional capacity to Neeco II–Area 2 under a 20-year bilateral power supply agreement.
“The Dupinga run-of-river plant will boost electricity supply in the municipality of Gabaldon and other adjoining municipalities, which are considered ‘the last mile’ of our franchise area," said Reynaldo Villanueva, Neeco II–Area 2 board president.
Alternergy said that about 13,000 households in Nueva Ecija would now be supplied with clean, renewable and sustainable power. At the same time, about 16,500 metric tons of carbon emissions would be avoided.
The company’s shares on Monday edged up P0.01, or 1.20 percent, to close at P0.84 per share.
