Amazon is offering free Prime memberships — here’s what to know

As a student, you’re always looking for ways to save money. And not just the obvious stuff like cheaper groceries — even last-minute treats can add up more than you expect.

But if you’re 18 to 24 or a college student, Amazon is offering you a free six-month Prime subscription. It’s essentially a trial available for young adults. For the duration, you’ll have access to full Prime benefits, including free delivery, Prime Video streaming, exclusive discounts, and additional perks. It also includes five percent cash back on eligible items.

The trial is courtesy of Grubhub and, once it ends, membership automatically renews at a reduced rate of $7.49 per month or $69 per year. This price is discounted too; the standard monthly rate is $14.99.

The offer is strictly age and eligibility-based, and cancellation is allowed at any time. However, once the trial period ends, billing begins automatically unless you opt out, so if you don’t want to be charged, don’t forget to cancel the trial.

Here’s everything you need to know about securing this free Amazon Prime trial.

Who can get the free Amazon Prime trial?

The trial is open to students and anyone aged between 18 and 24 years old. When signing up, you’ll choose whether to verify your age or student status. This is done by either submitting an image of your driver’s license, passport, or identity card. Or if you’re a student, you can verify your status through your .edu email address.

Does it include all Prime benefits?

Yes, you will get access to the full Prime membership, including free delivery, access to Prime Video for streaming movies, series, and live sports, plus member-only deals and discounts. It also gives you access to the retailer’s biggest sale event, Prime Day.

Other benefits include grocery delivery in selected areas, Amazon Photos storage, Prime Reading, and other limited-time perks.

What happens after the six-month trial?

After the six-month trial ends, your membership automatically rolls into a paid plan unless you cancel it.

You’ll be moved onto the discounted Prime for Young Adults rate of $7.49 per month (or $69 per year), instead of the standard $14.99 monthly fee. Billing then continues on your chosen plan each month or year. This discount applies until you are no longer eligible (for example, you turn 25 or graduate).

If you decide it’s not for you, you can cancel at any time before the trial ends to avoid being charged.
