The Ambala police have arrested two accused in connection with the installation of unauthorised CCTV cameras near Shambhu toll plaza and in the Naggal area. The accused were allegedly in contact with Pakistan-based handlers.

The cameras were allegedly installed to capture Army movements and other sensitive activities around the Haryana-Punjab border. The accused have been identified as Manpreet alias Manni and Anmol, both residents of Punjab.

According to police, the accused had installed CCTV cameras on the flyover on NH-152D near Shambhu toll plaza, under the jurisdiction of the Sadar police station, and another CCTV camera under the jurisdiction of the Naggal police station.

As per information, ASI Ravish Kumar, during the investigation of a case, observed two suspicious CCTV cameras. The cameras were focused towards Delhi. Toll plaza operators and NHAI officials said they had no information regarding the cameras. During the investigation, it was found that the cameras were unauthorised. Considering it a serious matter in view of security and Army movement in the area, FIRs were registered in April this year against unidentified persons.

The investigation was handed over to the CIA-1 unit led by Inspector Harjinder Singh of the Ambala police.

The CIA-1 in-charge said the accused have been arrested, and during police remand, the police will obtain information about other people involved in the matter and the data shared with the handlers. The police have constituted a team for further investigation.

Ambala SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat said, “The Delhi Police had busted the module, and the accused have been arrested in connection with the FIRs registered in Ambala. The accused had installed solar-powered CCTV cameras, and the feed was being shared with Pakistan-based handlers. Further investigation in the case is underway.”
