Thousands and thousands of fans from around the world have flooded into North America for this summer’s tournament.

Texas, Kansas City, Boston, and more have welcomed supporters from across the globe, and so far, the US residents and soccer fans are largely getting along great.

Scotland, in particular, left their mark on Boston when they visited the city for their first two group games of the World Cup. Now, one American has placed the Scots second when ranking the fan traditions at the tournament.

Norway, Scotland and Japan fans have some of the best World Cup traditions

Norway, who had not competed at a World Cup in the 21st century until this year, topped her list with the infamous Viking Row that has been on display across New York in recent weeks, including at a Mets game on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Tartan Army ranked second because they donate to local children’s charities in every city they visit when following their team.

In the video, which has been shared on X/Twitter, she stated: “The best fan traditions at the World Cup. Number one is the Viking Row. I’m American, and I’m over here supporting these Vikings. This is masculinity.

“Number two, I have Scotland. So this one’s actually my favourite because the Tartan Army, a Scottish fan group, actually donates to a local children’s charity in each city that they travel to for a match. And, of course, they’re in kilts, love this.

“[Three] You have the Netherlands. So Dutch fans actually march to the match, singing and chanting, all wearing orange. How fun is this?

“OK, next we have the Senegal seven letters. So these are the leaders of the 12th lion, an official Senegal fan group. All of their chests painted, singing to their songs, absolutely love this.

“Last but not least, we have the Japanese post-match clean-up. This is a globally celebrated tradition where fans of the Japanese national team remain in the stands after the final whistle to pick up trash and leave their section spotless.”

There was perhaps some scepticism from fans about travelling to America to watch the World Cup this summer.

But in recent weeks, it feels like the outside perception of the country is very much shifting, thanks to so many fanbases enjoying their stay in the US.
