RANAU: Unpredictable weather conditions have resulted in another climber slipping and injuring while descending Mount Kinabalu.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Ridwan Mohd Talib said the incident happened at Km 7.2 of the Mount Kinabalu trail at 10.20am last Thursday.

He said a seven-member Mosar (Mount Search and Rescue Team) led by Romje Wardi, five rescuers from Sabah Parks and two mountain guides were deployed to the scene.

“The 35-year-old local woman climber, who suffered an injury in the left ankle which was swollen, was unable to continue her journey and was brought down using to the ‘piggyback carry’ technique and later to Timpohon Gate using a stretcher,” he said.

The victim was given initial treatment before she was sent to the Ranau Hospital using the EMRS vehicle for further treatment. According to Ridwan, the incident was the third for September and the 49th victim of injuries on Mount Kinabalu so far this year.

He reiterated his call to intended climbers to be fully prepared, including mentally and physically, to avoid any untoward incident.
