KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated national para-powerlifting champion Bonnie Bunyau Gustin on winning Malaysia’s second gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games.
“Congratulations to Bonnie Bunyau Gustin, who continues to bring glory to the nation by winning gold in the men’s under-72kg para-powerlifting event at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games.
“May you continue to achieve success and bring further honour to Malaysia!” he said in a Facebook post today.
Bonnie secured Malaysia’s second gold medal after winning the men’s 72kg event at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Centre on Tuesday.
The Sarawak-born athlete successfully defended the title he won at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.
The victory also marked a comeback for Bonnie after he failed to defend his Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow in July, settling for bronze in the men’s lightweight category. –BERNAMA
