In a move that has bolstered consumer confidence ahead of the Aidilfitri celebrations, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his satisfaction with the stable prices of essential goods in the local market. During a visit to Mydin USJ in Subang Jaya, the Prime Minister personally inspected several items—including chicken, eggs, and red goods—to verify that prices remain affordable and even lower than usual.

Accompanied by prominent figures such as Datuk Ameer Mydin, Managing Director of Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd, and Selangor’s Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Anwar underscored the success of the joint efforts between the government and private enterprises. “I am also proud of the cooperation of all parties, including government and private agencies such as Mydin, who are working hard to ensure that the prices of goods do not increase ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri soon” he remarked.

Highlighting the significance of this achievement, Anwar recalled his days chairing the Cabinet Committee on Price Control of Essential Goods in the 1990s. “This is the first time this has happened since I chaired the Cabinet Committee on Price Control of Essential Goods in the 1990s,” he added, drawing attention to the notable progress made in preventing the price hikes that often burden households during festive seasons.

Mydin, demonstrating its commitment to affordability, also launched a special promotion by offering 500 chickens at RM1 per kilogram to selected customers. This initiative, along with comprehensive supply surveys confirming sufficient stocks of crucial items such as eggs and other red goods, has played a key role in easing the financial pressures typically experienced during Aidilfitri.

The Prime Minister also extended his gratitude to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, as well as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, for their relentless efforts to monitor and control price fluctuations. By collaborating closely with the private sector, these agencies have managed to maintain a balanced pricing environment that ensures Malaysians can prepare for the festive season without facing undue financial strain.
