KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the Immigration Department to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into a fatal crash involving one of its lorries on Jalan Sultan Ismail here early this morning.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said action should be taken if the investigation found evidence of negligence or violations of the law.

"I have ordered the Immigration Department to carry out an immediate and comprehensive investigation. If negligence or any breach of the law is found, appropriate action must be taken without compromise,” he said.

Anwar also conveyed his condolences to the family of the victims.

The incident, which occurred at about 1 am, claimed the lives of a 53-year-old man and his two daughters, aged 25 and 12, who died at the scene after reportedly being hit by an Immigration Department lorry at the Maju Junction traffic-light intersection.

The man’s 55-year-old wife was also injured, sustaining injuries to her head, arms and both legs. She is being treated in the Red Zone at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

According to police, the unladen Isuzu Black Maria was on its way from the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Office to Chow Kit for an operation against undocumented migrants. - BERNAMA
