On a call given by the Democratic ASHA Workers and Facilitators Union, hundreds of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) from across Amritsar district recently staged a district-level protest outside the office of the Civil Surgeon, demanding the release of salaries pending for the past two months.
Addressing the gathering, union state leader Paramjit Kaur Mann and district president Sarbjit Kaur Chhajjalwadi, along with Gurwant Kaur Lopoke, Manjit Kaur, Ranjit Dulari, Baljinder Kaur Verka and Kulbir Kaur, alleged that nearly 21,000 ASHAs and facilitators across Punjab had been left without salaries due to the negligence of the Punjab Government.
Civil Surgeon Dr Satinderjit Singh Bajaj later reached the protest site, received a memorandum from the union representatives, and assured them that the issues faced by ASHAs and facilitators would be addressed.
