
Kota Kinabalu: Sabahan athletes returned with three gold and two silver medals in the strong games event held in conjunction with the Jakarta Sports Week Festival in Senayan City at the weekend.
Joyce Heng continued her winning ways in the international stage with a gold in the women’s open category with her routine of log press (78kg), yoke walk (145kg), viking press (55kg) and bus pull (10 tons) while teammate Hazel Hiltor finished behind her in second place.
Another teammate Flavia Luntak contributed two gold medals in the women’s under-65kg and under-75 kg categories and the only male member Randy Roy clinched a silver in the men’s under-95kg.
Meanwhile, Joyce dedicated the win to her late father who passed away while she was on the flight to Jakarta on Friday.
“I felt really bad not being able to attend his funeral but I know he would have been very pleased that I have won the gold, and I would like to dedicate my win to his memory,” she said on Monday.
She also revealed that KL International Masters Athletics Championship from December 3-4 will be her next outing where she is to participate in the shot-put, discus, javelin events in the under 35-39 age category while Borneo Strongest Man & Woman Championship from December 10-11 in Brunei is likely to be her final competition this year.
