Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Para swimmer Ethan Khoo captured one gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the Virtus Oceania and Asian Games 2022 held in Brisbane, Australia from November 5-11.

He won gold in the 100m freestyle, silver in the 200m and 50m freestyle, bronze from the 50m and 100m Relay Open and another bronze in the overall youth awards category.

Ethan was the only representative from Sabah among the 11 para athletes in the national squad and he was accompanied by coach Eva Wong.

The pair were welcomed by Pestron (Sabah Sports and Recreation Association for People with Disabilities) president Tan Hwa Koon upon their arrival here on Sunday evening.

Tan, who praised Ethan for his achievement, also took the opportunity to congratulate all the Sabah Para athletes for their contribution in helping the State to win the historic overall title at the recent Para Sukma in Kuala Lumpur.

The State contingent won a total of 54 gold, 35 silver and 35 bronze medals to end Sarawak’s winning run of 13 consecutive titles in the biennial games.

He called on the athletes and coaches to continue their hard work and be ready to defend their title in the next Para Sukma.
