Austria will have to do without full back Phillipp Mwene in their World Cup round-of-32 match against Spain because of a thigh injury, the team said on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old Mainz player is part of the regular line-up for Austria head coach Ralf Rangnick. He started two of the three group matches at this World Cup.

Thursday's game against Spain near Los Angeles is Austria's first men's World Cup knock-out match since 1954.
