Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said that winger Nico Williams is dealing with a "minor issue" and will probably miss the World Cup round of 32 match against Spain on Thursday.
"Nico was very upset. After a whole year, he thought he was injured again. Fortunately, that's not the case, it's just a minor issue," the coach said in a news conference on Wednesday.
"That's why he probably won't be able to play tomorrow, but we're very optimistic that he'll be back in top form for the next match," De la Fuente added, but didn't specify what issues Williams is dealing with.
Williams was fouled by Nicolas de la Cruz in the final group stage match against Uruguay and was limping after the game.
"Today is one of the worst days of my life. I've been injured again after a very difficult year," the Athletic Bilbao player wrote on social media.
This season, he has struggled with groin problems, among other things.
If Spain advance to the last 16, they will face either Portugal or Croatia.
