KUALA LUMPUR – Standing brave for the truth without fear was among the final messages imparted by Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay to members of the Royal Malaysia Police (police) before his retirement.
The retiring Deputy Inspector-General of Police said true courage does not mean being fearless, but rather remaining steadfast in upholding what is right, even when knowing there is a price to pay.
"Courage is when we continue to stand up for what is right, even when we know there is a cost attached to it," he said during his speech at the handover ceremony for the Deputy Inspector-General of Police post on Sunday.
Earlier, Bukit Aman Special Branch Director Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus assumed the role of acting Deputy Inspector-General of Police, effective today (July 26).
His appointment follows Ayob Khan's mandatory retirement after more than 34 years of service in the force.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Kuala Lumpur.
Ayob shared that throughout his 34 years of service, he learned that a police officer cannot simply choose the easy path or strive to please everyone.
"Every officer must be brave enough to make the right decisions in order to uphold the law and justice," he added.
He further stressed that all police personnel must continue to safeguard the reputation of the force, a legacy built on the sacrifices of past officers, while ensuring there is no oppression within its ranks.
"Protect this force and this uniform. Guard the honour of this institution, which was built with the blood, sweat and lives of our predecessors," he said.
Additionally, Ayob reminded all force members to constantly uphold integrity.
"Never stop doing the right thing, because Allah SWT sees every sacrifice, knows every intention, and never lets sincere deeds go to waste," he concluded.
