Baguio Jungolfers take centerstage at 4th CGFI Golf Tournament

BAGUIO CITY — The Baguio Jungolfers made a strong opening day statement, firing a combined 98 points to secure third place in the first round of the 4th Cordillera Golfers Foundation Inc. (CGFI) Golf Tournament at Pinewoods Golf Club on Wednesday.

Seventeen-year-old Nathan Belandrez of the Baguio Jungolf Association led the charge with 30 points, while 10-year-old Marco Angheng added 26 points. 

Basti Saycon, 16, and William Sulit, 15, chipped in 24 points each for the lone jungolf squad competing under the demanding “four-to-play, four-to-count” format.

Play for the  biggest charity golf tournament in Northern Luzon, will shift to John Hay Golf Club for rounds 2 and 3 over the weekend.

Cordillera standout George Punasen of Greenwater topped individual honors  for the day in the mens regular A  with 37 points, powering his team to the lead with 117 points. 

He was backed by Douglas Puckett (28), Garry Puckett (27), and Sonny Fontilea (25).

Davao Eagle Masters III sits in second place with 109 points, courtesy of Christopher Tan, Regino Capa, Roderick Lo, and Larry Baluso.

In the inaugural ladies division, Baguio Olympics 2 and Igolfers USA Team 13 are tied at the top with 106 points each. Leading Baguio Olympics 2 are Glaissa Del Rosario, Dina Eden, Jolannie Sacyat, and Myles Bazar while Igolfers USA Team 13 is composed of Marceline Bangonan, Vivian Gomeyac, Gloria Moguet, and Kim Telles.

The Golden Razcals dominated Seniors A with 167 points, led by Elias Bulut Jr., Bernard Capuyan, Kit Moreno, and Swanny Mangaoang. 

In Seniors B, Team Pugo Adventure set the pace with 170 points behind Eugene Martin, Cesar Pasiwen, Willy Cayat, and Robert Basco.

Tournament action continues across two premier courses until the final round on April 18, with close to 400 players from 94 teams across the country and overseas vying for top honors.
