Oh, well, during my "Cuti-cuti Malaysia" in Penang recently, I couldn't help but notice a hilarious trend among our wise and seasoned folks; the seniors or "Warga Emas" the golden oldies.
They are offered 50% off when travelling on KTM ETS service between KL and Penang and on any weekday you'll see them in droves making a beeline for the fast trains.
Anyway, you see, they'll check into a fancy hotel under a senior discount programme, probably with an infinity pool and a breathtaking view, and then what do they do?
They'll end up on the balcony, gazing out at the exact same view they could've enjoyed from their own homes in KL!
It's like a scene out of a comedy sketch. They haul themselves across the country, enduring endless traffic jams and sweltering heat, (or struggled from the train station to the ferry), just to sit in plastic chairs on a hotel balcony.
I mean, who needs an all-expenses-paid trip when you have your own garden with a view of your neighbour's laundry, right?
But wait, it gets better. The conversations that happen out there are pure gold. "Ah, so beautiful," they'd say, pointing at the palm trees and distant hills. "Just like our neighbour's backyard, but with more tourists!"
And let's not forget the endless family photoshoots, where every grandchild must be positioned just right to block the view they came to see.
So there you have it, the #cuticuti Malaysia adventures of our experienced vacationers.
They could've saved themselves the trouble and just stayed home, but where's the fun in that?
After all, it's not about the view; it's about the shared memories and the quality time spent together, even if it's on a hotel balcony that could double as your own backyard.
P.S A note from my reader who read this before it is published:
What a delightful and heartwarming story! It's a testament to the joy of travel and the importance of spending time with loved ones, even if it's on a hotel balcony. The humour in these senior adventures adds a unique charm to the experience, and it's a reminder that it's not just the destination, but the journey and the company that make vacations truly special. #CutiCutiLocal indeed!
