SHAH ALAM - Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has warned the public against deepfake videos impersonating its senior officers to promote investment schemes and financial products.

In a statement, it said it does not promote or recommend private investment schemes and urged the public to verify information through official channels before investing or sharing suspicious content.

To help the public tell the real from the fake, BNM has put examples of deepfake videos and impersonation attempts involving the central bank on bnm.gov.my/verify.

Those unsure about a particular offer or company can also check BNM’s Financial Consumer Alert List and the Securities Commission's (SC) Investor Alert List, which name entities and investment schemes already flagged by the authorities.

BNM also advised the public to verify whether an entity is authorised to offer financial or investment products through BNMLINK or SC’s Investment Checker portal.

The public can also follow the Amaran Scam Facebook page for updates on the latest scam tactics and tips to avoid falling victim to fraud.

BNM urged the public to report suspicious content to the relevant social media platform or alert BNM or SC to help prevent it from spreading further.
