Barnala district has added another achievement to its record in the implementation of Census 2027, with Handiaya becoming the first charge area in Punjab to complete the Housing Listing and Housing Census Operations under Phase I of the nationwide exercise.

The district administration has already achieved 100 per cent initiation of Housing Listing and Housing Census Operations across all blocks under the Municipal Corporation, Barnala, and the district’s rural areas.

Reviewing the progress during a meeting at the District Administrative Complex, Director Census Navjot Kaur commended the efforts of the district administration, charge officers, supervisors, enumerators and other census personnel for ensuring the smooth and timely execution of the exercise.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer Harpreet Singh said that Phase I of the Census is being conducted in 972 Housing Listing Blocks across Barnala district and Municipal Corporation Barnala with the support of more than 1,200 enumerators and supervisors.

The district comprises seven charge circles: Tehsil Barnala, Tehsil Mehal Kalan, Tehsil Tapa, Nagar Panchayat Handiaya, Municipal Council Dhanaula, Municipal Council Tapa and Municipal Council Bhadaur.

Among these, Handiaya has emerged as the state’s top performer by becoming the first charge circle in Punjab to complete the Housing Listing and Housing Census phase. Working under the leadership of Charge Officer Harpreet Singh (Executive Officer), a team of 26 enumerators and five supervisors successfully completed all 26 Housing Listing Blocks within the stipulated time frame.

In recognition of their contribution, Director Census Navjot Kaur honoured Charge Officer Harpreet Singh, Census Clerk Gurdeep Singh and Technical Assistant Navdeep Kaur.

Later, Navjot Kaur conducted field inspections in urban Barnala and the rural area of Rureke Kalan. She reviewed the ongoing Housing Listing operations, interacted with enumerators, supervisors and residents, and assessed the quality and accuracy of data collection.
