Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie attended a wedding in Austria this weekend while the nation celebrated Trooping the Colour.

The York sisters made their sensational return to the royal fold earlier this month, when they strolled up to All Saints' Church in Kemble to attend Peter Phillips' wedding to Harriet Sperling.

But while Britain marked a tradition steeped in history and patriotism, Beatrice and Eugenie were nowhere to be seen.

They have not attended a celebration of the monarch's official birthday since 2019.

Instead, according to local outlet Kronen Zeitung, Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 36, travelled to Vienna, where they attended a friend's wedding.

The sisters were snapped outside St. Charles Church in the Austrian capital, along with their husbands, Jack Brooksbank and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

It is unclear whether their children joined them on their European getaway.

Beatrice has two daughters with husband Mr Mapelli Mozzi, four-year-old Sienna and one-year-old Athena, while also serving as stepmother to his ten-year-old son Christopher.

Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank have two sons, August, five, and Ernest, two, with a third child on the way this summer.

On Saturday afternoon, the King and Queen were joined by the Waleses and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh on the iconic Buckingham Palace balcony, as they watched the RAF flypast in awe during the Trooping the Colour ceremony.

The Duke of Kent was left so impressed that he wasspotted using his phone to record the display.

Since 2019, the monarch's official birthday parade has featured a reduced number of royals, with only working members participating in the balcony appearance.

The sisters have largely retreated from public view following a tumultuous period for their family.

This year has seen their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He strenuously denies any wrongdoing.

According to a report in The Sun last month, neither Beatrice nor Eugenie has visited their father at his new residence on the Sandringham estate since his arrest four months ago.

So, they were welcomed warmly for their cousin's wedding in the Cotswolds earlier this month, when they reunited with the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Tindalls.

Beatrice received awarm kiss on the cheek from William, while Zara greeted the pair with open arms. She is said to share a close bond with her cousins.

It marked their first Royal Family gathering of the year, as they were granted absence from the Easter Sunday service by the King.

However, it was suggested last week that the former Duke of York emailed his daughters before Peter's wedding, urging them not just to attend, but to "hold their heads high".

This could be behind the decision to confidently stride toward the church, rather than elegantly emerge from a vehicle at the door, as their fellow royals did.
