Tenom: The Sabah Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen’s Day (HPPNS) knowledge-sharing programme will be expanded to rural areas to improve farming communities’ knowledge, skills and productivity.
Sabah Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said Beaufort would host next year’s HPPNS celebration, creating opportunities to stimulate the local economy through agriculture, fisheries and tourism.
He said collaboration with tourism operators would be explored to develop attractive packages to draw more visitors and generate economic benefits for local communities.
Jamawi said HPPNS would continue to serve as a platform for knowledge-sharing among government agencies, farmers, breeders, fishermen and successful agricultural entrepreneurs to improve productivity and expand their economic activities.
Sabah Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Assistant Minister Datuk Roslan Muharam said Beaufort was ready to host HPPNS 2027 by showcasing its distinctive agricultural and fisheries sectors, particularly sago cultivation and udang kertas (paper prawns) farming.
He said both products had the potential to be promoted as local specialties to attract visitors and introduce Beaufort’s agricultural and fisheries resources to a wider audience.
Roslan said the event would also provide a platform for local entrepreneurs to promote their products, expand their markets and explore new business opportunities.
This, he said, could increase community incomes and position Beaufort as an attractive destination for visitors.
