
Kota Kinabalu: A 24-year-old man who caused grievous hurt to his friend during a drinking session, was jailed one year.
Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus meted out the sentence to Afenddey Junny who pleaded guilty to the charge against him.

The offence, under Section 325 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to seven years, and liable to a fine, on conviction.

During mitigation, Afenddey, who was represented by counsel Fauzi Acho from the Sabah Legal Aid Department, asked for leniency, saying that it was his first offence and he did not mean to cause hurt the victim.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Sofia Sawayan urged the court to hand down a deterrent sentence on Afenddey.

In the heat of the moment, Afenddey took a huge rock from the area and hurled it into the victim’s face.
The victim then collapsed and was later brought to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for further treatment.
Following a police report lodged by the victim, Afenddey was arrested.
