‘Bersatu has already announced its intention to form another coalition. By doing so, it has automatically exited PN.’
PETALING JAYA: PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has automatically ceased to be a member of Perikatan Nasional (PN) following its announcement that it intends to form a new political coalition, Utusan Malaysia reports.
Hadi said the position was in accordance with PN’s constitution, which stipulates that a member party automatically loses its membership upon joining another coalition.
“Bersatu has already announced its intention to form another coalition. By doing so, it has automatically exited PN,” he reportedly told reporters after delivering his weekly kuliah duha at Rusila Mosque in Marang today.
Last month, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin reportedly said the party would establish a new and stronger political coalition with several other parties after the Negeri Sembilan state election.
Muhyiddin said the proposed coalition would include parties from the Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat (IPR) alliance, including Putra and Parti Bersepakat Hak Rakyat Malaysia (URIMAI).
Hadi said PN did not need to issue any formal notification to Bersatu regarding its status in the coalition, as the party had effectively withdrawn itself through its public announcement.
“We do not need to issue an official letter. Under our constitution, once a party joins another coalition, it automatically exits,” he said.
