KUALA TERENGGANU - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Terengganu appears to be on the brink of collapse following the immediate resignation of its State Leadership Committee chief, Datuk Razali Idris, after leading the party for nearly ten years.
Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid stated that Razali's decision to step down was appropriate, given that the party is increasingly seen as weakening, particularly after a disappointing performance in the recent Negeri Sembilan state election.
He said Razali's action is considered a wise move before the party's situation worsens further.
"In my view, Bersatu Terengganu will be buried before long.
"So far, I see no successors who are truly capable of carrying forward the party's agenda in this state.
"At present, Bersatu no longer holds any significance. People will question why they should remain in Bersatu. Previously, people joined Bersatu because it led the Federal government and held the Prime Minister post, but the situation now is vastly different," he said when contacted here on Friday.
Previously, Sinar reported that Bersatu Terengganu was facing a leadership crisis after three of its key leaders unexpectedly announced their resignations, disrupting the party's leadership structure in the state.
It is understood that the situation unfolded after Razali announced he was relinquishing the post he had held for the past decade, effective immediately.
Razali, who is also a State Executive Councillor (Exco), declined to elaborate further on the reasons behind his action.
As one of the co-founders of Bersatu in 2016, he confirmed that he handed his resignation letter to party President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on July 16.
Besides Razali, two other senior party leaders who announced their resignations are Telemong assemblyman Mohd Zawawi Ismail, who stepped down as State Bersatu Information Chief, and Hulu Besut assemblyman Mohd Husaimi Hussin, who relinquished his role as State Bersatu Treasurer.
Additionally, Seberang Takir assemblyman Khazan Che Mat has hinted at taking similar action regarding his position as Deputy Chief of the State Leadership Committee.
Rosol, whose Bersatu membership is currently suspended for two terms, also described the party's future as hanging by a thread, noting that not a single branch meeting has been held in Terengganu to date.
He added that according to the party schedule, branch meetings were supposed to take place from 1 July until the end of August, but these have yet to be conducted.
"The failure to hold meetings at the grass-roots level reflects organisational weakness and raises questions about Bersatu's direction in Terengganu, especially following his resignation," he noted.
