Bersih executive director denied entry into Sabah

Kota Kinabalu: Bersih executive director Mohd Asraf Sharafi Mohd Azhar (pic) was denied entry into Sabah on Tuesday night under the State's immigration powers, with the Sabah Immigration Department confirming the action.

Sabah Immigration Department director Datuk Sh Sitti Saleha Habib Yusoff said Asraf was refused entry under Sabah's immigration powers but did not disclose the reason for the decision.

In a statement, Bersih said Asraf was stopped by Sabah Immigration officers at about 7.30pm while returning to Kota Kinabalu, where his family resides, and was informed that the action was taken under a Sabah Warning Notice (NAS).

The coalition said the restriction came after the submission of a memorandum calling for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into an alleged corporate mafia and four days before the Gempur Rasuah Sabah 3.0 demonstration scheduled for this weekend.

Bersih urged the Sabah Government to explain the basis for the decision and withdraw what it described as an unfounded restriction on Asraf's entry into the State.
