THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) collected more than P2 trillion in the first seven months of 2026, putting it on track to meet its 2026 target.
Data from the bureau showed that gross collections reached P2.003 trillion from January to July, exceeding the P1.990-trillion goal for the period and also higher than the P1.9 trillion collected a year earlier.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza said the agency had already collected around 60 percent of its full-year target.
“These results show that better taxpayer service, clearer rules, and effective enforcement can support stronger compliance and collection,” he added.
In July alone, the BIR collected P358.44 billion, beating the monthly target of P336.07 billion and also exceeding the year-earlier P339.03 billion.
Mendoza said the agency was pursuing reforms under its five-point BIR Dares agenda, which seeks to improve tax administration through simpler rules and processes, expanded digital services, enhanced audit safeguards and stricter enforcement against deliberate noncompliance.
“These reforms form part of the Bureau’s broader effort to improve compliance while protecting the government’s revenue base,” Mendoza said.
“We will continue helping taxpayers comply correctly and on time, while making sure that taxes properly due are collected fairly and efficiently,” he added.
Government revenues are expected to reach P5.205 trillion next year, data from the Budget of Expenditures and Sources of Financing for 2027 showed Tuesday.
The 2027 revenue goal is equivalent to 15.7 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) and is 8.28 percent higher than this year’s lowered target of P4.807 trillion.
Of the total, P4.851 trillion will come from tax revenues, of which the BIR is expected to account for the largest share.
