MELAKA - Barisan Nasional (BN) must retain its two-thirds majority victory in the previous Melaka election to ensure continuity in the state administration, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

He said BN would leverage the strong performance of the state government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh as a ‘feel-good factor’ in facing the Melaka state election, which is expected to be held this year.

"These achievements and progress must be maintained and used as a feel-good factor to continue attracting support for the candidates we will field (in the Melaka state election),” he told reporters after officiating the 2026 Umno Branches Conference for Melaka in Ayer Keroh here today.

Also present were Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Melaka Umno chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

Zahid, who is also BN chairman, said the party must engage all segments of society, comprising 63 per cent Malay voters and 37 per cent non-Malay voters, to retain its mandate in the state.

"This engagement is essential to align with the performance demonstrated by the state government, and we must also show strong performance as a political party to gain support from voters of all races in Melaka,” he said. - BERNAMA
