JOHOR BAHRU - Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters celebrated as unofficial results showed the coalition leading in 49 state seats in the Johor state election.

With vote counting now underway across the state, supporters expressed confidence that BN was on course for a commanding victory, describing the early results as the outcome of weeks of relentless campaigning and sacrifice.

Jamilah Ali, 60, said the encouraging unofficial results reflected the hard work put in by party members and volunteers throughout the campaign period.

“We spent more than a week in Johor, sacrificing our time and everything else for the sake of religion, race and country,” she told Sinar Daily.

Buoyed by the early lead, Jamilah said she believed BN could carry the same momentum into the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election.

“We are confident that in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election, we will gain the same victory,” she said.

Retiree Rusla Suha, 64, also described the unofficial outcome as a major reward after spending the past two weeks campaigning in Johor.

“It was a huge victory. We spent the past two weeks here, sacrificing our time and energy, but it was all worth it because the win was so overwhelming,” she said.

Rusla said BN’s strong showing in Johor had been anticipated and hoped it would serve as a springboard for the coalition’s next electoral battle.

“Victory in Johor was much more expected. We will make sure we gain the same results in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan election,” she said.

Polling for the Johor state election officially ended at 6pm, with vote counting now taking place at counting centres statewide.

Based on unofficial results, BN is leading in 49 constituencies, while the Election Commission is expected to announce the official results later tonight.
