KUALA LUMPUR - ‘Barisan Nasional (BN) will no longer be part of the Unity Government once Parliament is dissolved’, says BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“The moment Parliament is dissolved, we will no longer be with them (the Unity Government).”
He said BN’s commitment to the Unity Government would end once the 15th Parliament is dissolved.
According to Ahmad Zahid, BN decided to join the Unity Government after the 15th General Election (GE15) and will maintain its commitment until the end of the parliamentary term.
“In a complex situation, we want a fixed compass. BN decided to be part of the government after GE15 and our commitment remains to stay in the government until the end of the 15th parliamentary term.
“When Parliament is dissolved, we will no longer be with them. This is our promise,” he said in his keynote address at the 18th Annual General Assembly of Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) today.
He explained that the commitment was BN’s promise to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and was formalised through the formation of the Unity Government.
However, Zahid stressed that being part of the government did not mean BN had surrendered its identity or stopped having its own stance. - AWANI
