THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) said it would implement digital reforms to expedite cargo clearance, curb revenue leakages and make transactions more transparent.
“We have to put the right systems in place to fully modernize customs processes and hold our people accountable,” Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said.
Among the bureau’s key initiatives is the Customs Processing System, a digital platform designed to streamline document submission, assessment, payment and cargo release through electronic transactions.
It aims to reduce routine face-to-face dealings, improve processing efficiency and make customs procedures more transparent and accountable.
Nepomuceno said the reform, which is a component of the bureau's Integrity, Accountability, and Modernization Movement, aims to address undervaluation, misclassification and misdeclaration of imported goods that can deprive the government of revenues and put compliant businesses at a disadvantage.
