
THE body of an elderly woman was found floating near the edge of a lake at Taiping Lake Gardens on Tuesday morning, triggering an emergency response from the authorities.
Acting Assistant Director of Operations for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah, said his department received an emergency call at 9.01am, following which a team from the Taiping Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene.
He said firefighters successfully retrieved the body of the 73-year-old woman using rope rescue equipment.
“The victim’s body was then handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement.
Shazlean added that the operation was fully concluded at 9.55am.
Meanwhile, Taiping district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Nasir Ismail said the deceased, a local woman, was found fully clothed, with her identification card discovered on her person.
He said preliminary investigations found no signs of external injuries on the body.
“The police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the actual cause of death, including recording statements from witnesses at the scene and contacting the victim’s family. The body has been sent to the forensic unit at Taiping Hospital for a post-mortem examination,” he said in a statement.
