MANILA, Philippines — The remains of a Filipino caregiver who was killed by an Iranian missile strike in Israel at the start of the war in the Middle East arrived early Saturday, the government said.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said Mary Ann De Vera's husband, Bernie Lavarias, along with DMW Undersecretaries Barnard Olalia, Felicitas Bay, Dominique Rubia-Tutay, OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, Deputy Administrator Ryan Vincent Uy, Israel Ambassador to the Philippines Dana Kursh, and AGIMAT party-list Rep. Bryan Revilla were present for the Filipina who died from shrapnel wounds in Tel Aviv.

The OFW’s remains were transported to Pangasinan, her hometown.

Lavarias met on Thursday with Israeli President Isaac Herzog who expressed his condolences.
