Panic gripped a neighbourhood in Moga on Saturday after the body of an unidentified man was found in a vacant plot.
According to preliminary reports, local residents spotted the body and immediately alerted the police. A police team, accompanied by members of a social service organisation, rushed to the spot and secured the area.
A syringe was reportedly found in the man’s hand, prompting investigators to suspect a fatal drug overdose. The police have taken custody of the body and sent it to the mortuary at the Civil Hospital, Moga, where it will be kept for 72 hours to facilitate identification.
Police said a formal investigation has been launched, and the exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination.
