The body of the man, believed to be in his 40s, was found at the bottom of the drain.
GEORGE TOWN: The body of an unidentified man was found in a 10-metre-deep drain at Jalan Pantai Jerejak, Taman Pantai Jerejak here early today.
The Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre said it received a request for assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to retrieve the body at 2.34 am.
“Ten firefighters, along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) ambulance from the Bayan Baru Fire and Rescue Station, were dispatched to the location and carried out operations to bring the victim’s body up.
“The body of the man, believed to be in his 40s, was found at the bottom of the drain and was successfully brought to a safe surface area before the operation was fully concluded at 3.15 am,” it said in a statement.
The unidentified man’s body was subsequently handed over to the PDRM before being sent to hospital for a post-mortem and further investigation into the cause of death.
