Man held over mother’s death in Tambunan

POLICE in Keningau, Sabah have detained the 31-year-old biological son of a 56-year-old woman who was found dead with injuries believed to have been caused by a sharp weapon at a rented house in Kampung Katagayan, Tambunan, on Friday.

Keningau district police chief Superintendent Erwansyah Abdul Basir said police received a report about the death at about 2pm.

“Initial investigations found that the victim had sustained injuries caused by a sharp weapon. Following the incident, police traced a 31-year-old man who was the victim’s biological son.

“The suspect was subsequently located and detained by villagers at a sulap in Kampung Sukung, Tambunan, before being taken by the villagers to the Tambunan police station,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

Erwansyah said the Keningau district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Division formally arrested the suspect upon his arrival at the Tambunan police station.

“Investigators and forensic personnel conducted an examination at the scene and seized several items believed to be connected to the incident.

“The victim’s body was also sent to hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the actual cause of death,” he said.

Erwansyah said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“Further investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and the full chronology of the incident,” he said. - September 12, 2026
