Kevin Garnett is backing the New York Knicks to win the NBA Finals, even with Victor Wembanyama standing in the way.
The Boston Celtics legend’s prediction carries weight because Garnett knows what great big men are supposed to look like on the biggest stage.
He respects Wembanyama’s talent, but he is not ready to treat San Antonio’s breakthrough as the finish line. For New York, his pick comes with urgency. Garnett sees this matchup as the kind of window the Knicks cannot afford to waste.

Kevin Garnett picks New York Knicks in six over Victor Wembanyama’s San Antonio Spurs
Speaking on the KG Certified podcast, Garnett made his NBA Finals prediction clear and did not hesitate over the number of games.
“Give me the Knicks in six, give me the Knicks in six, they wrap everything up in six, and they’ll be wrapped up before 18,” Garnett stated.
That is a strong call because the Spurs have looked like a team growing up in real time behind Wembanyama.
San Antonio survived Oklahoma City in the Western Conference Finals and enters the series with the kind of size and defensive ceiling that can change any matchup.
But Garnett is leaning toward the Knicks’ balance, experience and urgency. New York has Jalen Brunson controlling late-game offense, Karl-Anthony Towns stretching the floor and a defensive wing group built to make every possession uncomfortable.
Kevin Garnett says New York Knicks must take NBA title chance right now
Garnett then explained why he views this Finals as a now-or-never type of opportunity for New York.
“And then to me, this is the Knicks’ only window I see. They’ve got to get it right now. All I’m talking about you ain’t got no Boston on here. You got no OKC. You’ve got to go now,” Garnett added.
That line says a lot about how Garnett sees the bracket. Boston and Oklahoma City are not in the way, and that matters because both teams would have created very different problems for New York.
The Knicks are still facing a monster challenge. Wembanyama can shrink the court defensively, punish mismatches and turn ordinary shots into bad decisions.
Still, Garnett believes the timing favors New York. The Knicks are healthy enough, deep enough and old enough to understand that these chances do not come around often.
KG’s message is simple: beat the Spurs now, because the path may never look this open again.
