GUA MUSANG - A nine-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, both from Selangor, are among six individuals feared missing after a trek across Mount Trans Gerah, having failed to emerge as scheduled at Pos Kemar, Perak on Sept 3.
Gua Musang district police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said the two children were hiking with their parents, both aged 39, and two mountain guides aged 49 and 44.
He said the group entered the trail via Pos Dakoh, Lojing here on 29 Aug, using the services of two licensed mountain guides.
"We received a report from family members in Selangor on Saturday after the group failed to exit the trail as scheduled.
"Checks found that the last contact with the group was on Sept 1, when they reported being in a forested area in Perak and still continuing their journey, before they became uncontactable," he told Sinar Harian on Sunday.
He said based on the planned route, the group was expected to exit via Pos Kemar, Perak, after a hike that typically takes four to five days.
Police are now liaising with the Perak authorities to confirm the group's last known location, as they are believed to have crossed into Kelantan's border, he said.
"We are coordinating with the Perak authorities to organise search and rescue operations," he said.
Sik said police have not ruled out the possibility that the group's mobile phones had run out of battery, which could explain why they could not be reached.
